Notes on the calendar competition.
The ‘Out Of Camera Competition’ is to be replaced by the Calendar Competition from 2026 onwards.
The Out Of Camera Competition was judged by ourselves. It is our intention to continue this position.
The purpose of the Calendar Competition is to produce a Calendar that does two things. 1.Provides the club with a possible source of annual income. 2. Gives the club something that can be used to promote ourselves and what we do.
Members might like to know that there was a great deal of interest in our images at the Middleton Park gala – with many wishing to purchase them.
In order that the calendar is of the highest quality this competition will come with its own set of rules.
Any image produced by a member may be entered. Images that have won any previous competition may be submitted.
Members may enter up to 4 digital images. As these images may be printed there is no maximum resolution.
The calendar need not feature images exclusively of Leeds, but authors are advised that images local to our club would be viewed more favourably than images known to be far from Leeds. We know that the paying public are more interested in images from our region than those from further away. At the same time the calendar shows off our capabilities, so authors should not feel that an image is ‘barred’ from entry.
Authors should retain any editing files (such as .PSD files) so that should the club feel an image needs to be modified for printing then this task is made easier by referring to the original uncompressed files.
Members retain the copyright of the image but by entering you allow Leeds Camera Club to print and sell these images for the purpose of raising funds for the club to do with as they wish.
The calendar will be printed on A4 double sided photo paper so that it can be hung showing an image on one page and a month planner of the reverse of another. As well as a calendar we will pe printing individual mounted images from the selected entries.
The finished calendar and individual A4 sized prints from it will be sold to the public. The club may also be gifting these to individuals as a way of promoting ourselves. The cost of printing will be covered by the club.
Judging.
Once again, the club itself will be judging the images. As well as giving individual marks the club will act as a ‘committee’ to choose the images for each month.
As the competition has a trophy there will be selection criteria for the winning image. Images that have previously won trophies in the club may be submitted for entry into the Calendar selection but will not be eligible to win the trophy for this competition.
Members will be asked to score images based on them being used in our calendar.
